The summer vibe has certainly hit the east coast of Australia, it's 33 degrees today and I'm sure that if you're lucky enough to live on this side of town then swimming in a pool would be a tempting urge.

But guess what stopped me? Vanity! My bloody hair got me saying no! Even though I knew afterwards how much better things were going to feel...it just never happened because there was a big practical voice in my head saying “you don’t have time to redo your hair tonight!”

Well I have since regretted this feeling and have come up with a solution for us Curlfriends so that we can CARPE DIEM this summer! Read along to find out how to swim with the dolphins and still have banging Curls.

How to prep your curls before you swim:

Your hair strands are like micro sponges, meaning they absorb things quite easily… In Australia we have some gaps in the ozone layer meaning sunscreen is an essential in the beach bag. Be aware your hair will absorb it if it is long enough to sit where you applied it. This is fine for a lot of people, but can cause discolouration and sticky ends to some hair types!

If you're a lover of swimming in the backyard pool for days at a time you will find that the chlorine will build up on your hair! Make sure you apply a light gel (Oomph Volumising Lotion) or a curl cream (Cruise Control Curl Cream) pre dipping your head under. It will act as a barrier to stop a high amount of the chemicals absorbing into your hair. If swimming with dolphins aka beach swimming is a daily activity make sure to use either of the above recommendations, if it is an occasional sport then there is prob no need to worry.

How to care for them after you swim:

This step will make your transitioning from drowned rat to mega beach god/goddess very simple! When you get out of the water, squeeze out the excess water and try to fight the urge to towel dry your hair! Reach in your beach bag and grab some Cruise Control Curl Cream and rake it through your Curls! Flick your hair around to break up the curl clumps. Using your hands, scrunch the curls from ends to roots a few times on each side and then sit back and let the fresh aroma of summer silence the rest of the world! Leave it to air dry as you read a new book, listen to a podcast or pray that the mister whippy van drives by soon. It is as simple as that!

What's the one thing I must carry in my beach bag?:

Coins for a mr whippy ice cream! Lol but seriously my newest summer essential is our Cruise Control Curl Cream! The essential hair product for an Aussie summer!
